How rich is the King of Thailand Maha Vajiralongkorn?
After his father's death in 2016, Maha Vajiralongkorn, also called Rama X., became King of Thailand. He has seven children from three women and is currently married for the fourth time. He has also declared his lover to be a concubine. The Thai king spent a large part of his reign in Bavaria, which angered his people against him. The estimated fortune of the King of Thailand is 100 billion euros.
The gigantic fortune of the Thai king
Income of the King of Thailand
Maha Vajiralongkorn, the King of Thailand, is considered the richest monarch in the world with his huge fortune and is of course one of the richest people in the world. The real estate owned by the Thai king alone is worth around 56 billion euros. In addition, he holds around a quarter in the Siam Commercial Bank and around a third in the Siam Cement Group. He owes his great fortune to a change in the law that he himself initiated in 2017. He put the Crown Property Bureau, which manages the property of the royal family, under his direct control. He also made sure that the institution did not have to pay taxes.
School and training in different countries
Maha Vajiralongkorn's father, Bhumibol Adulyadej, was also King of Thailand until his son succeeded him. First Vajiralongkorn attended the school of the Royal Chitralada Palace in Bangkok. Then he went first to England and then later to Australia to continue his school education. He finally graduated in 1970. Two years later, he enrolled at the Royal Military College Duntroon in Canberra, Australia, which he left in 1976 with a degree in corporal and humanities. He then entered the Thai military and became a staff officer. In 1982 he graduated from Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University in Thailand and also trained as a pilot.
The Crown Prince has six children
In 1972, the then reigning King Bhumibol Adulyadej appointed his son Vajiralongkorn as Crown Prince. As a result, in addition to his military training, he also had representative tasks to do. Vajiralongkorn married his cousin Soamsawali for the first time in 1977. The couple had their daughter Bajrakitiyabha in 1978, but separated again shortly after their birth and were finally divorced in 1993. Vajiralongkorn then entered into a relationship with actress Yuvadhida Suratsawadee, with whom he had five children.
Marriages number 2 and 3
After the Crown Prince's first marriage was divorced in 1993, he married Yuvadhida in February 1994. She changed her name to Sujarinee Vivacharawongse. The marriage lasted only two years, however, after which Sujarinee moved to England with the children. Vajiralongkorn expelled her and her three sons, only allowing his daughter Busyanambejra to return to Thailand. In February 2001, Vajiralongkorn married for the third time. His wife Srirasmi Suwadee gave birth to their son Dipangkorn Rasmijoti in April 2005 - the seventh child of the then Crown Prince and, according to the succession, his designated successor. Vajiralongkorn and Srirasmi were divorced in December 2014.
Vajiralongkorn becomes King of Thailand
In October 2016, King Bhumibol, loved by the Thai people, passed away. After a mourning period of 50 days, his son Vajiralongkorn has crowned the new King of Thailand in December 2016. In May 2019, he married for the fourth time and named his wife Suthida queen. Two months later, his lover, Sineenat Wongvajirapakdi, became his concubine. However, it was only three months before he dismissed Sineenat. In September 2020, however, a pardon was granted, and Sineenat received their titles and privileges back.
Government business from Bavaria
The Thai king caused controversy mainly because he stayed mainly in Bavaria until the end of 2020 and carried out his governmental business from there. In doing so, he drew the displeasure of his people. He also declared his villa on Lake Starnberg to be diplomatic territory, which meant that he did not have to pay taxes in Germany. Since he gave the order to execute a Thai citizen from Germany in 2018, he violated German law, which is why criminal prosecution was being examined.
